Sons of the American Revolution Honor Six New Eagle Scouts From Beaverton Troop #198

Beaverton, OR - May 7, 2016 - The Lewis and Clark Chapter, Oregon Sons of the American Revolution has been honoring new Eagle Scouts from the Beaverton area for over twenty years with a Certificate and Patch of Recognition for outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership and citizenship.

The new Eagle Scouts being honored are from left to right:  Riley James Erwin, Daniel O’Keeffe , Alden William Battaglia, James Robert Haley, Connor Chin and Noah A. Trainer. The Certificate of Recognition presentation was conducted by Compatriot Michael Tieman, Secretary of the Lewis and Clark Chapter Color Guard.

The Eagle Court of Honor awards program for troop #198 was from 3:30-5pm on May 7, 2016 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Beaverton, Oregon.

“The Eagle Scout awards were begun in 1912 and there were a total of 23. In 2014 that number grew to 51,820 yet only 2% of all the Boy Scouts since 1912 have attained the rank of Eagle,” said Grier Ingebretsen Eagle Scout Chairman for the Lewis & Clark Chapter. “I congratulate these six fine young men on earning the rank of Eagle. As an Eagle Scout they represent Scouting’s finest tradition of duty to God and country, duty to others, and duty to self. All values which build strong character, strong families and strong communities.”

The Eagle Scouts Scholarship
Each year, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) honors outstanding Eagle Scout applicants with the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarships. There are 3 national awards, the first place award being $10,000. Eagle Scouts can apply through the local SAR Chapter. The Chapter Winner is then judged at the state level. OSSAR then sends the winning application on for national competition.

Sponsor a Wreath on a Veteran's Grave With the Lewis & Clark Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and Wreaths Across America.

Beaverton, OR - May 7, 2016 - The Lewis and Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution this year has signed up with Wreaths Across America (WAA) to sell wreaths to be placed on veteran’s graves at Willamette National Cemetery on December 17, 2016.

The kick off program was from 10-11:30 pm on Saturday, May 7 at the Beaverton Resource Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd., Beaverton, Oregon. The ceremony began with the posting of the colors by the Lewis and Clark Color Guard dressed in their Revolutionary War uniforms.

The program began with the unveiling of the Lewis & Clark’s newly designed Sons of the American Revolution Information Booth which travels to most Color Guard events. The booth is used to inform the public about the Sons of the American Revolution and their “Patriotic, Historical and Educational” goals.

Help us remember and honor our veterans laid to rest all over the country.
“The goal of our ‘Sponsor a Wreath on a Veteran’s Grave’ program is to help in the WAA pledge that no veteran is ever forgotten and every fallen hero’s grave would be honored by a grateful nation,” said Compatriot Michael Tieman, L&C chapter secretary and program chairman.  The second part of our commitment is that the chapter has volunteered to place the wreaths on veteran’s graves at Willamette National Cemetery on the National Wreaths Across America Day, December 17. Also, if you have or know a vet buried at Willamette, and know the exact plot, you can sponsor a wreath through us and we will lay it on their grave for you.”

There are three ways you can “Sponsor a Wreath on a Veteran’s Grave” for only $15 per wreath through The Lewis & Clark Chapter. First, you can sponsor a wreath to be laid on any veteran’s grave at Willamette National Cemetery, secondly on a specific veteran’s grave and you can place it yourself or the chapter will place it for you. Finally you can sponsor a wreath for a grave at any of the National Cemeteries across the nation.  The chapter is giving 100% of their profits to The American Revolutionary War Memorial Fund. The memorial is to be located at the Beaverton Memorial Park.

To sponsor a wreath or for more information you can go to our website at www.orlcsar.org and click on the “Monuments” link in the left hand column.
