Our Chapter was busy this afternoon laying wreaths on the graves of America’s veterans and firing a volley in honor of their service. #wreathsacrossamerica

1:00 pm program at the Lincoln Memorial Park Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Boulevard. Laying wreaths started at 2pm  at the Cemetery flagpole across the street.

November 3 Chapter Meeting

New SAR member Phillip Erwin inducted today as a member of the Lewis & Clark Chapter. Congratulations Phillip!

His two sons are also SAR members, Compatriots Jackson Erwin and Riley Erwin, and his father-in-law President Michael Tieman is shown swearing him in. A three generation family affair.

Our October monthly chapter meeting was a road trip.

We went across the river to Washington and had a guided tour of Ft. Vancouver. Great hosts who taught us a lot about the fort and the time.

Thanks to our chapter VP Teddy Mills for setting it up for us.

Hillsboro VFW To Remember Colonial Soldier At Ceremony.

A Revolutionary War soldier who died in 1776 will be honored Monday at Hillsboro's Veterans Gateway. 


The United States was only six weeks old when Private William Moore and the rest of his battalion were attacked by British forces.

The Battle of Brooklyn Heights, also known as the Battle of Long Island, was the first major battle of the Revolutionary War, and was a loss for the Americans. Some 50,000 British and American soldiers fought over several miles of Brooklyn in what was the largest battle of the entire war.

On Aug. 27, 1776, British forces attacked, surrounding the Americans. While a contingent of British soldiers attacked their front, the main army surrounded the Americans to attack their flank as well.
A member of the Pennsylvania First Battalion's rifle regiment, Moore and his father joined the army in April 1776. His unit was responsible for guarding the hills to the far left of the American line.
According to Salsberry, Moore and about 230 other colonial soldiers attacked the well-armed British infantry, which outnumbered them nearly 4 to 1. Their early morning charge, Salsberry said, alerted Americans of the flank attack by the British, which gave troops the chance to safely get behind American lines.

Moore's unit suffered heavy casualties. About 209 of the men were either killed or listed as missing at the end of the battle.

"It was hopeless," Salsberry said. "They were outnumbered, and the British had bayonets. The Americans had only muskets, but they alerted the line that the British were there. Because of this, most of the Army was able to get behind fortified lines and Washington made his great escape from New York, and the rest is history."

When Salsberry learned of her ancestor, she approached Pack about small service to remember the fallen Revolutionary War soldier.

Flag Day Celebration With the Boy Scouts

Awards! Awards! Awards!

Beaverton, Oregon June 2, 2018 Today was a special Chapter meeting. It was the First Annual Awards Celebration. Today we gave out 31 chapter certificates to members from 5 years to one Compatriot Arlen Clark who has been a member for 30 years. The Certificates are for their years of  service to the Chapter and their Community. At 18 years each is Neil Verigan (above left) and John Krumbein.

And to our special DAR ladies who have helped us this last year, we presented them with the SAR Appreciation Medal. Sue Proud (above left) and Corey Martin (above right).

Memorial Day 2018

Memorial Day, May 28, 2018 - Beaverton Veterans Memorial Park. As years in the past, the Oregon SAR Continental Color Guard participated in the Beaverton Memorial Day Celebration. We shot a musket volley to honor those who fought and died in the service of their country. From the Revolutionary War to the present. We thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of FREEDOM. Our Color Guardsmen this year were: Commander Mark Robertson and Compatriots Michael Tieman, Fred Heiserman, Riley Erwin, Bob Simpson, Bill Murray, Dean Boring, and Larry Heckethorn.

We Take Our Learning Trunk To School

Beaverton, Oregon May 24, 2018 Today the Oregon SAR Continental Color Guard and DAR representative made a Learning Trunk presentation to three 5th Grade classes at Montclair Elementary School. The kids liked our "Show & Tell", and they could touch the things our ancestors in 1776 used in everyday life. DAR daughter is Robertha Mills and the SAR Compatriots: Teddy Mills, Fred Heiserman, Michael Tieman, Bill Murray and Commander Mark Robertson. Our thanks to the awesome teachers and kids. On June 13 we head to the Fir Grove Elementary School to hook up with three more 5th grade classes.
